Inflatable Safety Guidelines
Keep every guest safe with these essential rules
Safety is our top priority. Follow these guidelines to ensure a fun, injury-free experience for all guests. Share these rules with supervisors before your event.
TSSA Compliance - What It Means
- •TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) regulates amusement devices in Ontario
- •Licensed operators have met training, insurance, and safety requirements
- •TSSA-certified equipment is inspected annually for structural integrity
- •Required for schools, municipal events, and venues requiring documented compliance
- •Private backyard parties typically do not require TSSA certification
- •Always ask your provider about their licensing status for peace of mind
Weather Safety Rules
- •Wind limits: Inflatables must be deflated at 20-25 mph winds (check with provider)
- •Rain: Light rain is usually okay, but heavy rain requires deflation
- •Lightning: All guests must exit immediately at first sign of lightning
- •Extreme heat: Ensure inflatables are wet down if surfaces become too hot
- •Monitor weather forecasts starting 1 week before your event
- •Know your provider's reschedule policy before booking
Supervision Requirements
- •At least one adult (18+) must supervise each inflatable at all times
- •Recommended ratio: 1 adult per 10 children for active supervision
- •Supervisors should remain at the entrance/exit, not inside the unit
- •Brief supervisors on safety rules before guests arrive
- •Supervisors should enforce capacity limits and monitor behavior
- •For large events (100+ guests), consider hiring professional attendants
Safe Use Rules for Guests
- •Remove shoes, glasses, jewelry, and sharp objects before entering
- •No food, drinks, gum, or candy inside inflatables
- •No flips, wrestling, or rough play
- •No climbing on outside walls or netting
- •One slide user at a time; wait for previous user to clear
- •Enter and exit one at a time using proper openings
- •Separate groups by size: toddlers (2-5) from older kids (6+)
- •Follow posted capacity limits strictly
Capacity Guidelines
- •Each inflatable has a maximum capacity - never exceed it
- •Capacity is based on both number of users AND combined weight
- •Mixing large and small children increases injury risk
- •Overcrowding is the #1 cause of inflatable-related injuries
- •Rotate groups every 5-10 minutes for busy events
- •Post capacity limits visibly near each unit
Setup Safety Requirements
- •Inflatables must be properly anchored (stakes in grass, sandbags on hard surfaces)
- •Minimum 3 feet clearance on all sides, 10 feet overhead clearance
- •Level ground is essential - slopes increase tipping risk
- •Keep away from power lines, fences, pools, and fire pits
- •Blower must run continuously - never let children on deflated units
- •Extension cords must be grounded and outdoor-rated
Emergency Procedures
- •If power fails: Calmly guide children out through the openings as unit deflates
- •Inflatables deflate slowly - no need to panic, but act promptly
- •Know location of first aid kit and emergency contacts
- •Have a phone charged and accessible for emergencies
- •If severe weather approaches: Evacuate immediately, don't wait
- •Provider emergency contact should be saved in your phone
⚠️Important Reminder
- •Adult supervision is mandatory at all times. The designated supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and maintaining a safe environment.
